A day after DNA revealed the contrary stand taken by South Mumbai Congress MLA Ameen Patel on creation of more low-cost housing by the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (Mhada), members of its Mumbai board called it an attempt to malign the image of the authority, which is on a roll after successfully conducting three lotteries in the past three years.

“We have worked hard to streamline the online lottery process of the Mumbai board. In the last few years, the board has managed to sell 8,182 tenements to various sections of the society through Mhada lotteries. House hunters have responded with great enthusiasm to our advertisements and the authority has sold more than 8.25 lakh forms across Mumbai. If, in spite of such a huge mandate, an MLA expresses views contrary to his party and the Democratic Front government’s manifesto, how can people keep faith in agencies such as Mhada?” questioned Allwyn Das, one of the board members from the Nationalist Congress Party.

Das added that the authority is providing good quality housing to the common man at rates much lower than the market, and the trend has to continue.
