The police said he was attacked by a leopard.

Sunny Soni, the victim, lived in Charanpada in Adarsh Nagar area at Aarey Colony in Goregaon (East) with his parents and two-year-old brother. Sunny's father Sanjay is a hawker and has been living in a rented hut for the past five months.

"Soni went missing on April 24 around 7pm when he was playing near his house. When the boy did not return home after an hour, the family lodged a missing person's complaint," said a neighbour.

"The boy's photos had been distributed in Aarey Milk Colony but we did not get any clue," said the boy's uncle.

"On Sunday, the boy's neighbour Sudhakar Khedekar saw body parts in the jungle and a T-shirt lying nearby. He informed the family members and the police," said Ashok Kamble, police sub-inspector. Soni's mother identified the body parts and said they were her son's. "We found only one hand and leg and a part of his head."

"The body has been sent to Bhagwati Hospital for post-mortem. Preliminary investigation suggests that the boy was attacked by a leopard. But we will have the DNA analysis," said police inspector SK Vichkar.
