Michael Ferreira's ex-daughter-in-law held in Qnet scam

The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Mumbai police on Friday arrested the ex-daughter-in-law of former world billiard champion Michael Ferreira in connection with the Rs 425 crore Qnet scam. The EOW had earlier also questioned Ferreira for his alleged involvement in the chain marketing scam.

The police picked up Susan Nikhil Chatterjee, 46, from Khar on Friday afternoon. Chatterjee, who was earlier married to Mark Ferreira, the former billiard champion's son, had allegedly played an important role in encouraging people to invest in the Qnet marketing chain in which several people lost their money which amounted to a total of Rs 425 crore.

"We have arrested Chatterjee in connection with the Qnet scam and have produced her before court. She encouraged people to invest in Qnet fully knowing that it is a fraud company. So, she has cheated people," said an EOW officer on condition of anonymity.

According to EOW officials, Chatterjee had come to know that the company was a fraud in 2008, but continued to encourage more people to invest in it, thus increasing her share of commission over the years. The officials believe that Chatterjee would have encouraged around 30,000 people to become members of Qnet and thus has pocketed Rs 1.70 crore as commission.

Special public prosecutor Pradeep Gharat said, "Chatterjee was produced before the Esplanade court and was remanded to police custody till September 16." She has been booked for cheating and criminal conspiracy and also under various sections of the Prize Chit and Money Circulation Act.
