The Maharashtra Housing and Development Authority (MHADA) has decided to provide housing to nearly 2,000 tribals living in the Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP). The houses will be three-storey including a terrace open to a sky courtyard.

Besides, 24,959 slum dwellers in SGNP will get apartments of 300 sq ft. While the tribals will be rehabilitated on a land measuring 43 acres, the slum dwellers will be accommodated on 47 acres of land. The houses will be situated in Mouje Marushi, which, activists say, is part of Aarey.

On Monday, MHADA's Borivali division released a tender inviting those who can construct houses using conventional technology, and for the survey, soil investigation, construction, planning, layout, building designing, and other such work. The successful bidder will have to do all this only in lieu of construction TDR.

The carpet area of the row houses for tribals will be 300 sq ft and construction loading will not be over 20 per cent of the carpet area. For slum dwellers, the bidder will have to construct a multi-storey with maximum height as permissible by the Airport Authority of India. The carpet area will be 300 sq ft and the construction loading will not be over 50 per cent of the carpet area. The tender specifies that maximum existing trees are required to be retained.

The estimated cost of the project is Rs 35,10,90,06,075 while the earnest money deposit is pegged by MHADA at Rs 17,55,45,030. The time limit for construction of the houses is 48 months including monsoons. The bid submission will start from December 21 and can be submitted till February 4.
