However, the crowd was scant on Wednesday as many preferred to stay home rather than step out owing to the advisory issued by the state disaster management cell to stay indoors.

Mumbai Metro One Private Limited (MMOPL), operator of Metro-1, on Tuesday claimed that it ran additional services till 1 am to cater to the stranded commuters who were stuck owing to heavy rainfall.

The average weekly ridership is more than 3.50 lakh commuters daily. On Tuesday too the ridership of Metro-1 was between 3.50 lakh and 3.60 lakh commuters.

However, MMOPL had a rough time on Wednesday as rumours about the crowd getting out of control at Ghatkopar Metro station, and the Metro bridge near Chakala collapsing, went viral on social media.

Later, MMOPL clarified that both these updates were rumours and denied any such incidents.

MMOPL tweeted on Wednesday, "The news of the #MumbaiMetro bridge collapsing is a hoax. The Metros are functioning smoothly. Have a safe journey."

Meanwhile, many commuters also took to Twitter to thank MMOPL for running Metro services on time during the heavy rains.
