Well-known Marathi film actress Asha Kale received the prestigious Kala Gaurav award instituted by the Pimpri-Chinchwad-based Kalarang Sanskrutik Kala Sanstha at the Ramkrishna More Auditorium on Thursday night.

State water supply minister Lakshmanrao Dhobale hailed the artistes for winning the awards. “It gives me great pleasure to share the dais with the award winners,” he said.

The other awardees included Atul Parchure, a well-known actor and comedian, Smita Tambe, a young upcoming actress. Kishori Shahane, an eminent Marathi film actress, got the best actor (female) award. Swapnil Joshi, famous Marathi film and television actor got the best actor (male) award. The best director award was given to Ravi Jadhav while Phulwa Khamkar received the best choreographer award. Music director Ajit Parab, along with film and theatre personalities, was felicitated. The late Shrikant Thackeray music award was conferred upon Parab. The Shahir Umap award was added this year, which went to singer Anand Shinde.

The local list of awardees from Pimpri-Chinchwad included Sanchay Nrutya Kala Academy’s Vaishali Palsule, Prabhat Cultural Foundation’s Abdul Latif Mohammad Sayyed, Kalasadhna Bharatnatyam Academy’s Suvarna Bag, Sangeet Sadan Sanstha’s Ajit Deshpande and Nrutya Kalamandir Sanstha’s Snehal Soman.

Mayor Yogesh Behl said such awards are an encouragement to the artistes to better their performance.
