MUMBAI
Shoib Siddique had handed over his passport to airport authorities to check into the airport, but was immediately detained and then later interrogated by police officials.
A 38-year-old man who was tying to board his flight to Bahrain was detained at Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport on Saturday. Shoib Siddique had handed over his passport to airport authorities to check into the airport, but was immediately detained and then later interrogated by police officials.
His name is similar to that of an Indian Mujahideen (IM) operative who is wanted in connection with some blast cases in the country. The operative also has a look-out notice against his name.
Till the time of going to press, Siddique was still being questioned. Police sources, however, confided that nothing incriminating against Siddique had so far been found. Shoib’s father Nadeem says that his son had been working in Bahrain for the last eight years and had no connections with the IM.
The police later revealed that Shoib was detained based on an anonymous call, alleging that Shoib, an IM member, would be traveling by the airline.
If Siddique was detained because his name matched with that of a man with a look-out notice, it bears resemblance with the case of one Dawood Ibrahim Kaskar.
Kaskar is a UK national who visits Mumbai regularly to spend time with his extended family in Borivli. Kaskar, owing to the fact that his name bears resemblance with the dreaded terrorist Dawood Ibrahim, has been detained at least seven times at Mumbai’s international airport.
Sources say that every time his name gets reflected in the ‘look-out’ notice, airport authorities send out an alert.
