The arrested person has been identified as Siraj Mehendi Hasan Khan (30), a resident of Saki Naka and a driver by profession.
An 11-year-old girl from Saki Naka in Andheri was raped by a man not known to her. The victim had gone to play garba near her house, when tormentor forcibly took her inside a tempo and raped her. Enraged locals searched for the suspect in the locality and lodged a police complaint. The arrested person has been identified as Siraj Mehendi Hasan Khan (30), a resident of Saki Naka and a driver by profession.
Khan was caught on Wednesday night and during interrogation he admitted to his crime. Khan’s family stays in Uttar Pradesh. Police said that Khan has admitted to the crime and will be produced in the court on Friday.
According to police, the incident took place around 9 pm on Tuesday. The victim had gone to play garba near Jari Mari, Saki Naka . “When the victim was walking alone, the suspect forcibly gagged her mouth and took her inside a tempo and raped her. The accused fled from the spot. The victim went to a nearby telephone booth and informed her mother about her ordeal. Her shocked family and neighbours rushed to the spot,” said an officer from Saki Naka police station.
“The police registered a case of rape and unnatural sex against the accused under the sections of Indian Penal Code and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act,” said senior police inspector Kishore Sawant.
The cops took the victim to a nearby hospital for medical examination. The police prepared a sketch of the accused based on the description given by the victim. “Four teams were formed to crack the case. The police scanned 50 CCTV camera footage of the area,” said police Inspector Sunil Mane.
The police collected semen and blood spots from the tempo which will be vital evidence later in the court.
