The city crime branch sleuths on Friday arrested a man working in a footwear factory at MIDC for allegedly kidnapping and raping his colleague earlier this month. The suspect was apprehended when he was trying to flee.

The arrested man has been identified as Ajay Ram Sevak Yadav, 24, a resident of Charkop in Kandivli.

According to the police, Yadav and the 30-year-old woman works in a footwear manufacturing factory. On May 15, when the woman, who is married, had stepped out of the factory for tea and Yadav followed her.

"Yadav forcibly made her sit in an auto and took her to a lodge in Vasai. When she tried to resist Yadav, he threatened and raped her. After returning home, the woman narrated the entire incident to her husband, who then went to the factory and bashed up Yadav," said an officer from unit X of crime branch, adding that the husband then lodged a complaint.

A case of rape, kidnapping and threatening has been registered against Yadav.

Yadav had fled after he learnt police was searching for him. On receipt of specific information a team of officers Gopika Jahangirdar and Sachin Khanvilkar nabbed Yadav.
