Man, 21, tries to rape minor in Turbhe, held

APMC police arrested a 21-year-old man for allegedly trying to rape a five-year-old girl inside a mosque’s bathroom at sector 21 in Turbhe on Monday night. He was caught red-handed after the girl started crying from inside the bathroom.

According to police, Mohammed Rafiq Ansari, a resident of sector 21 in Turbhe, took the girl inside the bathroom of a mosque by promising her to give chocolates. Once inside, he tried to remove the girl’s clothing, and in fear the girl started crying. “Passers-by heard a girl crying inside the bathroom which made them suspicious.

“The passers-by then knocked the door but when there was no response they broke it open. They found Ansari assaulting the minor,” said DN Bhong senior PI APMC police station.

Within no time, a huge mob gathered there and beat Ansari. Later, they called police and handed him over to them. “Ansari is unemployed and does odd jobs.
His parents are labourers, and Ansari is also not well-educated,” said Bhong.
Police are checking whether he has any criminal background.

Initially, the family of the girl was reluctant to register a complaint due to fear, but they agreed after police convinced them of their safety.

Ansari was booked under sections 342, 354 and Protection of Children under the Sexual Offences Act, 2012.
