Students of the Mount Litera School International (MLSI) in Bandra brought in Diwali in a special way on Saturday, making it a day to remember for their grandparents with song and dance performances. Over 450 students participated in a skit organised by the school's teachers, to teach the children about the richness of Indian mythology, and to express their love and affection for their grandparents.

The day started with the grandparents being given a traditional welcome, complete with vermillion tikka and flower garlands. Students then performed a medley of old Kishor Kumar and Mohammad Rafi songs, transporting their grandparents to a golden era of music. They also played innovative games involving both grandparents and their grandchildren, which also helped strengthen their bonds. The school then created a memory booklet with pictures and handprints of grandparents and grandchildren as tokens of appreciation. The event concluded with retro-themed dance performances encouraging everybody to shake a leg and let their hair down.

"At MLSI, our aim is to create a culture of strong Indian values, and relationships that strengthen our bond with the community. Today's initiative helped the students know more about our mythology and engage with their grandparents in a spirit of fun and sharing. Such events leave an impact and go a long way in enabling students to be a better version of themselves. And the joy in the eyes of the grandparents touched all our hearts," said Mona Seervai, head of MLSI.

Shambhavee Patwardhan, Class VIII student, said, "I was very excited to see my grandparents today at school. We sang a song for them today along with my other classmates. My grandmother has fractured her one arm, so they were hesitant to come initially. But when they learnt me and my younger sister are both performing on stage, they made it all the way from Pune."

Another set of grandparents, Anthony and Hilda Menezes, said, "We are very proud to know that our granddaughter is going to such a beautiful school. She has made a beautiful card for us with poetry in it."
