Mahim man held for sending drugs abroad

The Narcotics Control Bureau's (NCB) Kolkata unit on Saturday arrested a 41-year-old man from Mahim (East) for allegedly sending drugs worth Rs 5 crore abroad.
The unit seized 2,000 tablets of Zoltime containing Zolphideium, a psychotropic substance, in May from Alipur in West Bengal. Although banned abroad, the tablets have a huge demand hence the accused sent a consignment from here, said the officer. The parcel of four boxes was sent via DHL.
On inquiring about the consignment's sender, it was revealed that Siddique Ali, 41, a resident of Diamond Apartment in Mahim (East) had booked it. Following the lead, NCB's Kolkata zonal unit dispatched a team to the city, and with the help of Mumbai NCB arrested Ali from his house.
The officer said Ali had booked the consignment on his name for delivery to Kolkata. "We will be grilling the accused to know from where he got the drugs. We are trying to track down the smuggling's entire chain," said a NCB officer.
Ali has been taken in to custody by the NCB Kolkata zonal unit for further investigation and he will be taken to Alipur on transit remand for seven days.
