Nationalist Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar has personally launched an exercise to woo sitting MP and former deputy chief minister Vijaysinh Mohite-Patil to recontest from Madha constituency. However, Mohite-Patil is insisting that his son and former MP Ranjitsinh Mohite Patil should be nominated instead.

Pawar's move comes close on the heels of his decision not to contest from Madha paving way for his grandson Parth Pawar to fight ensuing poll from Maval seat.

As Mohite Patil has not yet given his consent to recontest from Madha seat, NCP decided to postpone the announcement of nominee in the first list of candidates announced today.

Mohite Patil over the years has lost his following and grip over the Solapur district as it was challenged by ambitious party leaders and their relatives. Mohite-Patil, who is 75 plus, is not so enthusiastic to fight the poll as he will have to struggle to effectively tackle factionalism and intra party rivalries. Mohite Patil and party legislator Babanrao Shinde and his brother Sanjaymama Shinde are at loggerheads. NCP insiders believe that it may cost party heavily.

NCP leader, who accompanied Pawar with his meeting with Mohite Patil, told DNA, "Party strongly feels that Mohite Patil's candidature will help NCP retain Madha seat as he still has his clout. If Mohite Patil decides not to contest, then in that case party will nominate his son Ranjitsinh Mohite Patil. All efforts will be made for his victory.''

He informed that Pawar had held chat through video conferencing asking leaders to bury hatchets and stay united for NCP's victory in Madha.

BJP and Shiv Sena have yet to allocate among themselves Madha seat as they may allot to other allies.
