MUMBAI: Seeking to disapprove the Sharad Pawar-led NCP's refusal to back the Congress nominee, Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh on Monday said the lone Rajya Sabha seat in the state should go to Congress, which is now the single largest party.

"In Rajya Sabha elections last time (following the resignation of Sanjay Nirupam), the seat had gone to NCP as their numbers were more and we had supported them. This time, our numbers are more so it is natural that the seat should come to the party," he told reporters here.

When asked if new equations are emerging in the state politics in the wake of the Rajya Sabha polls, he said "I will not comment till another nomination is filed."

Asked whether NCP is backing Rahul Bajaj, he merely said "I have no idea".
