Maharashtra government records 94 swine flu deaths till Wednesday

The number of cases treated too has increased to 1,236 patients, who are being treated across the state.

As per the Maharashtra public health department data, around 94 patients have died in the state due to swine flu till Wednesday. According to the state's health department officials, there has been a higher number of cases of swine flu since this year due to climatic changes in the region.

The number of cases treated too has increased to 1,236 patients, who are being treated across the state. A higher number of swine flu cases were recorded in districts such as Nashik, Nagpur, Ahmednagar and Pune city.

A death audit committee meeting by the public health department from Maharashtra stated the number of death reported in the state is 94. Out of these 94 deaths, the highest number of swine flu deaths have been reported in Nashik district, where 24 patients died, followed by Nagpur with 16 death, Ahmednagar with 12 deaths and Pune city with eight deaths.

As per the released data, around 8,15,000 people were screened for swine flu in the state of which 247 patients are admitted to various hospitals and eight patients are on ventilator support.

Swine flu is caused by the H1N1 virus. Its symptoms include fever, cough, body ache, nasal secretions, headache, fatigue, loose motions, and weakness.

"We have started creating more active awareness in all districts, especially which have more cases. But there is a special drive or precautionary measures taken to prevent H1N1 cases in the state. We are following the central government's norm. The stock of medicines have been kept in the state hospitals and the public health post centers," said state-run public health department.
