Amid the rising coronavirus COVID-19 cases in Maharashtra, including Mumbai, the people in India's financial capital are worried that whether Mumbai local trains operations will be stopped in the coming days. It is to be noted that several experts have claimed that the resumption of Mumbai local trains services is one of the important reasons behind the sudden spike in COVID-19 cases in the city.

Speaking to CNBC TV18, BMC Commissioner Iqbal Singh confirmed that no order has been issued to stop Mumbai local train but Maharashtra government is closely monitoring the situation and will review it in the next two weeks. “The Chief Minister has already said that he doesn’t want lockdown at all. We cannot lower our guard and need to be cautious. We want to curb crowding of people,” Chahal was quoted as saying by the news portal.

It is to be noted that Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has already imposed night curfew across the state to curb the spread of coronavirus. The decision to impose night curfew has left many people confused with many worried that the night curfew will also affect the schedule of Mumbai local trains. Sources said that Mumbai local trains will remain unaffected during the night curfew.

Maharashtra added 6,51,513 COVID-19 cases in March, which is around 88% of the total number of cases reported in the state in the last five mnonths. Maharashtra recorded 7,38,377 cases of coronavirus  between October 1 and February 28, 2021.
