The state government's Economic Survey Report for 2013-14 which was tabled in the legislature on Wednesday, does not have details about irrigation projects. Experts said the government does not want to divulge those details because of allegations of massive corruption in their execution. Also, bad press months before the assembly elections could hamper the Congress-NCP's prospects of retaining power in Maharashtra.According to the report, by 2012-end, the total irrigation potential created was 49.26 lakh hectares. However, the report does not mention the period during which the potential was created. The cost of irrigation projects is also not mentioned.Vijay Pandhare, ex-irrigation officer and whistleblower in the alleged multi-crore irrigation scam, told dna that the government deliberately withheld the status report of the irrigation projects so as to avoid controversy ahead of the assembly elections.
