Maharashtra cabinet gives approval to three new Metro routes
The proposed Metro routes are Wadala to CST, Gaymukh to Shivaji chowk at Mira road while Kalyan to Taloja in extended suburbs.
Maharashtra cabinet on Tuesday approved the major Metro Rail projects that will ease the commuting in Mumbai. The proposed Metro routes are Wadala to CST, Gaymukh to Shivaji chowk at Mira road while Kalyan to Taloja in extended suburbs.According to the cabinet decision, the 12 km of Wadala to CST metro project will be undertaken by the MMRDA. The total estimated cost of this project is Rs 8,739 crore where 4 km of Wadala Sewri route will be elevated while remaining eight km of Sewri to CST metro route will be underground."There will be 10 metro stations on this route. The government is expected to complete this proposed project by 2026. The state government, MMRDA will jointly complete this project and required fund will be raised through the international banks. This route will connect the Mumbai Port Trust Land area to the mainland of Mumbai. We will also seek the Mumbai Heritage and Conservation Committee because this underground route will pass through the heritage area and structure like the General Post Office (GPO), BMC building, Gadhyal Godi. It will also connect the Monorail at Wadala Metro station," said a minister who was the part of the meeting.
