According to Central Railway officials, the motormen were alerted about the fire, after which the train was halted. No commuter was injured in the incident.

However, commuters deboarded the train in fear of the fire spreading to other compartments. People also complained about the ‘stop chain’ which failed to function.

“The motormen and guard used a fire extinguisher to put off the blaze. Some passengers were carrying kerosene or inflammable material, but the cause for the fire is not known,” an official said adding that a detailed enquiry is being conducted into the matter.
