Three days after Patil, an 84-year-old Dhule farmer attempted to commit suicide, he is still said to be in a critical condition. Patil drank poison in the premises of Mantralaya on Monday and was immediately admitted to a nearby hospital.

Since Tuesday, Patil has been on dialysis in the ICU of JJ Hospital. As per the doctor, Patil's health is not supporting the medical treatment being given to him.

Stating that the government was insensitive to farmers' issues, Shetti said that authorities do not pay heed unless someone tries to commit suicide and demanded action against all the government officials who under-valued Patil's land which was acquired for the power project. Shetti said, "When Patil's 200 gunthas (five acres) of land was given a compensation of Rs 4 lakh, the farmer with an adjoining farmland was provided with a compensation of Rs 1.89 crore for his 74 gunthas of land which is less than 2 acres. Not only Patil, but all other farmers who have been provided with less compensation should be given justice."
