Locals to post guards near school to ease traffic woes

The Cuffe Parade Residents Association (CPRA) will be appointing two guards to help the traffic police for a smoother flow of traffic outside GD Somani School in Cuffe Parade. The two guards will be posted outside the school's premises from February 1.

"We are appointing two security guards at the school so that the rules for no parking are enforced properly. Despite no parking signboards, parents and car owners still park their car. Now no one will be allowed to halt longer than the time required to pick up students or alight from the car," said Kausshal Bagadia, joint secretary, CPRA.

According to the residents, getting through the stretch outside the school takes nearly 15 to 20 minutes because of the parking by parents of students attending the school. "Sometimes parents do double parking. Now the guards will ask them not to stop and will take pictures of cars parking and give them to the traffic police for further action," said Padmakar Nandekar, secretary general, GD Somani school.

Ajay Kshirsagar, senior police inspector (traffic) of Colaba division said, "Residents have not met me but we have put our officers. Residents may put guards but it is unlikely that it will be as successful."
