It was a day of failures for railways on Thursday. Early in the morning, the IRCTC website crashed, affecting lakhs of passengers across the country opting to book tickets. Later, a signal failure near Kalwa hit suburban services and late afternoon a local train developed a technical snag near Mulund, throwing services completely out of gear, with people being forced to walk on tracks.Two trains were cancelled due to the problems. Both morning and evening peak hour services were delayed because of the problem. There was chaos at bigger stations like Kurla and Dadar as crowds swelled and services in both directions were affected till late in the day, though officials denied any such inconvenience.Scores of passengers opting for online booking could not book the tickets from 12.30am to 1.00pm on Thursday.  While Mumbai officials said they were helpless, IRCTC spokesperson PC Behari, told DNA from New Delhi, "Due to electrical problems, the power supply system to the server was affected. As a result, the e-ticketing system was down. It was rectified by 1.00 pm. There were problems thereafter as many people were logging at the same time."Commuters on Central Railway had a tough time after a signal failure at Kalwa, from 10.56am to 11.30am. Four CST-bound and one other slow local were delayed.  The services during the period were running 15-20 minutes behind scheduled on the Kalyan-Thane route.  Officials said that at 2:45pm a Kalyan-CST slow local developed a technical snag just before Mulund station. Technical staff rushed to spot and brought the local to Bhandup. CST-bound slow local services were diverted on the fast line from Thane. The traffic was restored at 3.30pm. CST-bound slow line services were running 15 to 20 minutes behind schedule from 3.30pm to 4.30pm.
