On Friday evening, Mumbaikars got some much-needed respite from the scorching heat and humidity. However, lightning strikes claimed the life of a youth residing in Mahalaxmi. Apart from this, three persons were killed due to lightning and 14 others were injured in Palghar.

Praveen Jadhav, a youth from Mahalakshmi, allegedly died after lightning struck him. His body was sent for post-mortem to Nair Hospital. Moreover, three persons including a woman died in Palghar due to lightning. Vasant Patil, Eknath Shelar and Sangeeta Sutar succumbed to severe burn injuries. They were residents of tribal villages in Palghar, Manor and Vikramgadh. Fourteen others were injured due to lightning and were rushed to Manor Rural Hospital and the Sub District Hospital at Kasa.

The lightning strikes caused further damage as a fuel tank is suspected to have triggered a major blaze at Mumbai Port Trust's Pirpau Jetty. The fire was restricted to a 32,000 metric tonne capacity high-speed diesel oil tank in the storage area. No casualties were reported in the fire, even as fire-fighting operations were on.

The rains lashed south and central Mumbai, reducing visibility, and gradually poured over the eastern as well as western suburbs. Till 8:30 pm, the Colaba observatory received 8.0 mm of rainfall while Santacruz received 2.7 mm of rainfall.
