However, his pain could not subdue his elation of being Lalit at last. "I am in pain, but I am happy that I will finally be known as Lalit. I am confident that society will accept me with open arms," he said.

According to his mother Kesarabai Salve, his uncle knew that he was a boy since childhood, but they did not pay attention because of poor financial condition, and lack of awareness. Casting a worried glance at her son, a tensed Kesarabai Salve, said, "We are agricultural labourers. We are from poor financial background. We sent Lalit to his uncle for schooling owing to his stable financial condition. We hardly met during vacations. After three or four years, we got to know about his medical condition, but chose to ignore it due to lack of awareness and economic condition." Salve has two brothers and one sister and is more educated than his siblings.

A doctor who visited Salve's room to do a routine check, said, "He is in postoperative pain, thus he is in complete bed rest. He is not allowed to move from the bed. We are trying to prevent skin infection at the operated parts, which is why we have put him on a liquid diet."
