The Mankhurd police on Tuesday arrested Irfan Nawab Khan, a 24-year-old labourer for the kidnapping, rape and strangulation of an eight-year-old girl. The victim’s father Gulam Rasool Khan, 50, was also arrested for allegedly handing over the victim to Irfan to drop her at home.

“Irfan Khan and Gulam Khan were remanded to police custody for five days. Nawab was arrested by the police team at Shahaganj railway station, while Irfan was nabbed from Mandala area of Mankhurd,” said inspector Praveen Tejale of Mankhurd police station.

The body of Reshma Khan was found in a nullah along the Sion-Vashi highway at Mankhurd on July 18. The police team led by senior inspector Shankar Singh Rajput, sent the body to Rajawadi hospital for post mortem. The report stated that the victim was raped and sodomized, and died due to drowning.

During interrogation, Gulam Khan revealed that he had wanted to visit his native place and handed over his daughter to his neighbour Irfan Khan outside Mankhurd railway station to drop her home. Irfan allegedly confessed to the crime.
