The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the city police, on Friday, arrested a 32-year-old man from Tamil Nadu for allegedly duping the Padma Ispat Private Ltd (PIPL) company to the tune of Rs 16.35 crore. Film producer Prerna Arora is wanted by the police in the said case.
The arrested person has been identified as Altaf Gulzar Ahmed Hussain, a resident of Vellur in Tamil Nadu and an executive assistant at KriArj Entertainment Private Ltd (KEPL). Those wanted in the case are Arora, Arjun alias Nimit Kapoor, Anwar Ali and Protima Arora.
According to the police, Hussain is a senior official working with Prerna Arora's KEPL. It is alleged that the accused had conspired together and had concealed the fact from the complainant company PIPL about having signed an agreement with other companies and their first right on the money generated through distribution of films. The accused persons induced PIPL to invest money in film distribution and later did not pay the firm back.
"Once the PIPL realised that they have been cheated, they had lodged a complaint with the MIDC police and the case was then transferred to the EOW for further probe. KEPL had prepared documents for movies like Kedarnath, Fanney Khan, Batti Gul Meter Chalu and Rani and had assured that the investor would receive revenue earned from the movies," said an EOW officer.
Arora's KriArj Entertainment had done an agreement with Gothic Entertainment Pvt Ltd company in November 2017 to invest in Kedarnath and later made similar agreements with Puja Films, in December 2017, and with PIPL in January 2018, the officer said.
On December 6, the EOW had arrested Prerna Arora in a Rs 31 crore cheating case wherein she had allegedly duped Puja Films using similar modus-operandi. Arora is the director of production house KriArj Entertainment Pvt Ltd and her firm has produced films like Rustom, Toilet-Ek Prem Katha, PadMan and Pari.
