The Joy of Giving Week is only 10 days away and a series of events are being lined up where you can not only contribute resources but volunteer your time to bring a little happiness in the life of someone less fortunate.

The week kicks off on October 2 across the country. In the five years since it was launched, the movement has spread to more than 70 cities with over Rs30 crore contributed  and hours and hours of time volunteered last year.

The unique event this time in Mumbai is Koshish, an initiative by the Tata Institute of Social Sciences to interact with the homeless. ‘Under the Stars’ is an open invitation to a night walk on October 1, through locations where these less fortunate people gather to rest for the night.  Those who register for the walk will be able to talk to these people to better understand from them what it really is to live out there on the streets and try to address their needs.

Footsteps4Good is a charity run planned at the Bandra-Kurla Complex on October 2, in which anyone can participate to raise Rs2,000 for a charity of their choice. The feature of this event is that the entire amount collected by the runner will go to the NGO of their choice and there is no registration fee to be paid.

Another Mumbai special is ‘Maadhyam 2013’, an interactive festival connecting Mumbaikars, corporates and organisations to various NGOs working for different causes.
