Malhar might be over but there are still some colleges that have their annual cultural fests. Kishinchand Chellaram College is one of them. The students of the college are busy preparing for Kiran, their annual cultural fest. The two-day event will be held on the 24th and the 25th of September.

The theme for this year is ‘dynamic duo’. It is a tribute of sorts to famous pairs of popular culture, like Tom and Jerry, Jay and Veeru, and Akbar and Birbal. The core committee has also organised various events in order to help the flood victims of Uttarakhand. One such is the contemporary dance event. “It will be a dance competition to reach out to the victims of the Uttarakhand floods. The participants will have to dance in pairs. The theme of the performance has to be Uttarakhand. The participants can interpret Uttrakhand in any way they want.

The interpretations can be of hope, devastation, pain, relief or any other interpretation of their choice,” says Neha Mulchandani, PR in-charge of the fest.
The events in the cultural extravaganza are segregated into different categories.

‘Signature’ events are the mainstay of the whole fest, while ‘Flagship’ events are exclusive events for which the college is known. “One of the flagship events for this year will be Blaze. It is a band-based event on the lines of battle of bands, where various bands will fight to be at the top,” said Shyam Kewalramani, vice-chairperson of the event. Around 15-20 bands will be participating in the event.

“We also have an event in Western performing arts. The event is called ‘The streets are callin’. It will be a group dance-based event. The genre for the entire event, as the name suggests will be street dance. It will be a 360-degree performance where we will keep speakers in a circle and the group has to perform their dance inside the circle. The interesting thing is that the group will have to perform the dance on an old Bollywood song, but the genre of their dance must remain street,” added Kewalramani.

Another event is ‘Double dealing’. “In this the participants need to showcase any two of their talents in the performance. For example, the participant should be able to beat-box and dance at the same time,” said Mulchandani. Another interesting event will be ‘Eat, burp and repeat’. The winner will earn the title of the ‘Ultimate Hogger’.

With more events like JAM, war of the DJs, and shoe painting, this year promises double the fun, double the madness and double the entertainment.
