Speaking to dna, special public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam claimed, "The witness and the deceased were about to get married. The deceased used to inform the witness that the accused had been assaulting her. The witness also informed the court that Tak used to force the deceased to go to Dubai and work there for more money."

Laila Khan and her family went missing from Mumbai in February 2012. On July 3, Nadir Patel, the biological father of Laila Khan, registered a case of kidnapping at the Oshiwara police station. However, later it came to light that accused Parvez Tak, who was the stepfather of the starlet, had allegedly killed the family in order to grab money and valuables which belonged to them.

According to the charge sheet filed by the crime branch, Tak had married Laila's mother Celina. The only reason behind marrying Celina was to grab her money. The idea was to become rich. Hence, he decided to drive the family to Celina's farmhouse in Igatpuri. Tak then killed all of them and buried their bodies in the backyard of the farmhouse.

Tak, who was initially arrested by the Jammu and Kashmir police in May 2012, was later handed over to the Mumbai crime branch.
