Kangaroo Kids is city's top preschool, shows study

Bandra-based Kangaroo Kids (KK), which lost its No 1 ranking to Podar Jumbo Kids Plus (PJK), Santacruz (W) last year, has again topped the EducationWorld India preschool rankings this year from Mumbai. Podar Jumbo Kids Plus stood second, while Besant Montessori School, Juhu, stood third. Almost 3,128 respondents including parents (with at least one child in preschool), teachers and principals, were part of the research, and were asked to rate 173 preschools on ten parameters.

On what parameters were the schools judged?
The rankings of 173 preschools from ten states were released on Saturday by Education World India, a magazine. The rankings were based on ten parameters of education excellence including teacher competence, teacher welfare and development, safety and hygiene, leadership, innovative teaching, value for money, parental involvement, individual attention to students, special needs education and infrastructure.

Who participated in the study?
Around 3,128 parents, teachers, principals and children were part of this research that helped 200 field researchers of Delhi-based market research agency Centre for Forecasting and Research Pvt.Ltd (C Fore) in the study.

Which other schools performed well?
Podar Jumbo Kids Plus stood second in the ranking, followed by Besant Montessori School, Juhu, Leapbridge International Preschool, Sion, Alpha Kids, Andheri (W), Little Bo Peep, Khar (W), Casa Bambino, Bhulabhai Desai Road, West Wind, Gamdevi, Kangaroo Kids, Lamington Road and Children's Nook, Gamdevi.

Swati Popat Vats, president, Podar Education Network, said, "I think perspectives keep changing. Our quality commitment is same. It depends on how the voting and parameters were taken. We accept whatever is the result as long as we do good work and parents are happy."

Purpose was to stimulate healthy competition, says mag editor

The purpose of the annual EducationWorld India Preschool Rankings is to stimulate the upgradation of Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) institutions. By rating and ranking the country's best preschools in major cities, we hope to stimulate healthy institutional competition and help young parents make suitable preschool choices," says Dilip Thakore, editor of EducationWorld.

Expansion plans for Kangaroo Kids

Lina Ashar, chairperson and founder of Kangaroo Kids Education, (KKE) said: "Feel very good that we have topped first. What I would like to see is that all top ten should be KK next year. The team was very keen to keep the standards high, including teachers, coordinator, staff. From teachers training to looking after the infrastructure of the school. The award belongs to 400 people that work with KKE. Right now we are taking India across the world by starting it in Dubai, Sri Lanka and have 100 schools operational in India."
