Kamala Mills Fire: All accused remain in jail

The Sessions court on Friday rejected the bail applications of all the accused arrested in the Kamala mills fire case. The court, however, is yet to give the detailed order copy for the rejection of the bail applications.

The bail applications were filed by the director of Kamala Mills Ravi Bhandari, owner of Kamala Mills Ramesh Govande, the owners of both the restobars, the fire department officials, the managers of the restaurants, and hotelier Vishal Karia.

Opposing the bail application, the prosecution said all the accused had flouted norms, which led to the fire. It was alleged that the owner and the director of Kamala mills did not check fire safety and security measures regularly.

The fire department officials allegedly gave a fire proof nod to the restaurants, despite them not having proper fire exits and not fire proof either.

The owners of the restaurants had allegedly also used inflammable products and lacked proper fire exits.

Hotelier Karia, on the other hand, was pulled up for sheltering the owner of the restaurant 1 Above, the eatery where all the victims had died.

On December 29, a major fire had broken out at the Kamala Mills compound. It claimed 14 lives and injured another 55. The police initially suspected that the fire started at 1 Above, a pub next to Mojo's Bistro, as all the victims were dining there.

However, recently in its report, the fire brigade confirmed that the fire started at Mojo's, eventually spreading to 1Above.
