‘Jalasimha’, Suresh Kalmadi’s farmhouse near Panshet dam, 25 km from Pune, which had seen celebrity guests such as Anil Ambani, Vijay Mallya, Vinod Khanna, Sunil Dutt and Hema Malini, instead saw a battery of CBI sleuths raid it on Friday.
The Bollywood-style farmhouse is spread over 7 acres. The Central Investigation Bureau (CBI) team conducted a detailed search of the farmhouse for 6 hours.
Kalmadi and his family members occasionally visit the place. They had hosted son Sumer’s marriage reception there. The farmhouse consists of two bungalows, one for the family members of Kalmadi and the other for guests.
The CBI team arrived at the farm house at 1 pm. No family member was present. Only a gardener, two attendants and two security men were present.
The CBI team first checked the guest room, after which they searched the Kalmadi bungalow. As no family member was present, the CBI team broke open the locks of cupboards.
A farmhouse staff said two huge boxes were kept in the bungalow. The CBI team broke open the boxes but found only a packed table in it.
The CBI team inspected the toilets, bathrooms and lofts for any concealed documents.
Sources told DNA that Kalmadi had not visited the farmhouse for the past year, but his wife Meera visits it regularly.
The CBI team skipped Kalmadi’s home in Baner. Security guards confirmed that the CBI team had not visited the bungalow and said that Kalmadi’s daughter, Payal, was in the bungalow.
