Residents of Kalina have slammed the demolition drive of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) in their area, which they said was an eyewash. The residents are angry that despite several follow ups, the illegal constructions have only become better after action was taken on their complaints.

In a letter to Alka Sasane, Assistant Municipal Commissioner of the H/East ward (Bandra to Santa Cruz), Voice of Kalina, an ALM (advanced locality management) has criticised the ward office for their inaction and futile drive they conducted.

"All demolitions carried out by you on Kalina-Kurla Road are a big shameful farce as they have been reconstructed better than before," said the letter. "It only goes on to show how the officials are in cahoots with the ward-level officers. Where is the watchful eye of the BMC if, after two days itself, the demolished structures come up in a better way. Are we supposed to continuously remind them of the action they are supposed to take on their own? Is it not their duty to curb illegal construction? It is surprising that illegal constructions are made better after they are demolished by authorities," said Clarence Pinto, member of Voice of Kalina.

Sasane could not be reached for comment.
