Kaskar and his aides were standing in front of the residential building near JJ hospital when two men — Sayed Bilal and Indira Khatri — approached them and got into an argument with them. After fistfights and a verbal war of words, the two men opened fire, killing Kaskar’s bodyguard, Arif Sayad Abu Bahar Zuberi, and injuring his driver, Tahir-Kaskar. The gangster’s brother, however, was not injured in the firing. Kaskar was taken to JJ hospital for treatment after the incident. He was released immediately.

The assailants tried to escape in a cab from the narrow Pakmodiya lane after the incident, but the police managed to get hold of them after being alerted by some locals, who were chasing them. The police found three weapons and some live ammunition on them. Initial investigation has revealed that the assailants are residents of Mumbra. Two people have been detained in connection with the incident.

Several people gathered at the spot after hearing pistol shots. They were, however, clueless and too scared to comment. Kaskar is an accused in the Sara Sahara land grabbing case. He is incidentally Dawood’s only sibling to be tried by an Indian court.

Reports said this is a conspiracy to wipe out the Kaskar family.
