Jilted, man slashes co-worker’s face in Mumbai

A thirty-five year old man has been arrested by the Cuffe Parade police for allegedly attacking a woman with a sharp weapon on Tuesday morning. The police said the accused had been stalking the victim, who works at a stock trading firm, and had been forcing her to marry him.

The accused has been identified as Angatrao Namdeo Chabre, a Cuffe Parade resident. The incident occurred on Tuesday around 7am near Lalit Building at Prakash Pathe Marg, when Cuffe Parade resident Anita Patil (name changed), was walking towards her office with a relative.

According to the police, Patil had met Chabre two years ago when she was working at a private firm at Cuffe Parade and they soon became good friends. But their friendship soured when Chabre proposed marriage to Patil, who turned him down saying she was married and had children.

This irked Chabre, who started stalking the victim from then. On several occasions, he tried to force her into accepting his proposal.

“The victim quit her job and joined a stock trading firm at Cuffe Parade due to the harassment. She did not get any relief even then, as Chabre kept a tab on her movements,” said the officer.

“On Tuesday, Chabre confronted her again and asked her whether she would marry him. Patil refused his proposal yet again, after which Chabre took out a knife and slashed her ear and face. Chabre also attacked Patil’s relative, who had tried to intervene,” the official said.

A police patrolling team from Colaba police station soon rushed to the spot and apprehended Chabre. They then handed him over to the Cuffe Parade police station. He was produced before a local court and was remanded in police custody till September 27.
