Jealous of a 13-year-old boy’s friendship with a girl from his school, four minor boys studying in the same school killed him in Nalasopara on Friday. The boys have been sent to the Bhiwandi remand home for children.

Thirteen-year-old Virendra Maurya, a resident of Oswal Nagari in Nalasopara, was found dead on salt pan land outside Nalasopara station on Friday. According to the police, his killers smashed his head on a boulder, causing his death. Maurya was wearing his school uniform when he was found.

Suspecting the involvement of someone who knew the teen, the police decided to interrogate four of his classmates, all students of  Navyuvak Vidyamandir in Nallasopara east. Using mobile tracking technology during investigations, the police found out that the boys were present at the spot when Maurya died.

“During interrogation, the four of them revealed that they were jealous of Maurya’s proximity to a girl from their school. They had called him to ask him to stay away from her, but Maurya refused. A fight broke out between them. They assaulted him and smashed his head against a boulder, instantly leading to his death,” said Dhananjay Jagdale, assistant inspector of Nalasopara police station.

He added, “We have registered a case under section 302 (murder) The four boys were sent to the Bhiwandi Children’s Home,” said Jagdale.
