After last year’s assembly elections, few members of Jain community are again gathering their fellow members to support a candidate for the University’s senate election.
A number of Jain organisations are mailing letters to seek support for fellow Jain, Jayesh Kala.
Kala, a chartered accountant, is contesting the December 26 election on a Shiv Sena ticket. There are 10 seats for the senate that go for voting once every five years. The senate members have a say in the policy matters, curriculum and can take up student grievances.
“We are sending mails to all the graduates and
mobilising them for support. Around 2,000 votes should ensure that he sails through,” said Gautam Mehta, a member of a Jain organisation.
