Officials said Verma was acting after his office received four complaints from passengers about the same, despite a 2009 railway board circular ordering for the meal to be served when demanded by customers. “I’m just trying to enforce the circular,” Verma said.

On Tuesday, IRCTC group general manager Virender Singh wrote to the CR office terming Verma’s actions ‘unilateral’ and ‘not in the best interests of the customers.’

He said, “We have issued orders for the meal to be served between 12-3pm and 7-10pm.”
