Petitioner Chitra Salunkhe sought quashing of a report submitted by the principal judge of the sessions court, Swapna Joshi, who was directed by the high court in July 2010 to conduct an inquiry into the matter. No action, though, has been taken on the report to date.

A division bench comprising justices VM Kanade and PD Kode directed the state and the University of Mumbai to file their replies and adjourned the matter till April 17.

The court had earlier transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation a probe against seven senior IPS officers for allegedly shielding Bishnoi. This order was later stayed.
