In August, the state government had ordered an inquiry after it emerged that in the exam  conducted from February 22 to 24 for the post of 36 junior research assistants, relatives of the vice chancellor’s own staff passed with flying colours.

The inquiry report, which was submitted to the state a few weeks back, has been forwarded to the governor. It holds the More guilty of the alleged malpractices and it recommends that the exam and recruitment process be scrapped. It also seeks a police investigation into the whole exam and recruitment process and that of the question papers being leaked.

The whole recruitment process erupted in controversy after the son of a deputy registrar and the wife of a technical officer of the university were appointed for the posts by More. The appointments were also completed really fast, surprising officials.

Following complaints, the state ministry of agriculture stayed the exam and recruitment process and minister of agriculture Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil ordered for an inquiry to be conducted by Maruti Sawant, MCAER director general.

The exam for the post of junior research assistants was conducted from February 22 to 24, 2012. They would later graduate or be promoted to teaching positions in the university. Although these exams are usually conducted for 200 marks, the vice chancellor chose to conduct them for 100 marks.
