After the Crime Branch’s network of informers was practically dismantled apparently by Police Commissioner AN Roy, over the past six months, the Home Department has now decided to revive it. The 1000-odd informers will now be attached to 100 officers of the Anti-Terrorist Squad.

Sources in the Home Department said, “This network was the backbone of the human intelligence that worked wonders during 1993 bomb blast investigations. The network was also helpful in cracking down on the underworld.”
