“Most crimes take place early in the morning. Between 2am and 5am, the area does not have any police patrolling,” said Anil Joseph, chairperson of the Perry Road advanced locality management (ALM).

Joseph said the increasing number of thefts happened early morning.  “Constables go to their chowkies after 2am and criminals know this,” he added.

“We have been consistently asking for night patrolling. They seemed to have just stopped over a period of time,” said Shyama Kulkarni, an active ALM member of the Perry Cross Road. “How can a person go to two places with a knife? What were the watchmen doing? It is high time societies employed watchman with only one shift and get them registered. Police patrolling has to increase in the area,” added Kulkarni.
