Indian forces silencing their Pakistani counterparts on the border front couldn't have come at a more opportune time for Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh. The minister, who addressed a rally in Thane on Friday, was gung-ho about the aggressive posture of our front-line troops.

After the break-up of their 25-year-old alliance with the Shiv Sena, BJP's big guns are all out to capture Thane and Kalyan, known bastions of the latter.

While External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj had on Thursday said that Uddhav Thackeray should maintain decency and not go overboard with his criticism of the BJP, Singh chose to play safe, targeting the erstwhile Congress-NCP government in Maharashtra for price rise, inflation and many other problems.

Standing on the back of a mini truck, the senior BJP addressed the public at Wagle Estate. He highlighted the prime minister's Jan Dhan Yojna, saying it had helped crores of people get bank accounts. If voted to power, BJP will create a lot of job opportunities for the youth in the next five years, said the union minister.

"Despite having huge potential, the state still leads in corruption, red-tapism, farmer suicide and, above all, with 1,362 rape cases a year. If BJP comes to power, the scenario will be altogether different," said Singh as he canvassed for advocate Sandeep Lele of Kopri-Panchpakhadi constituency.

Singh also sang praises for Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his governance and India's achievement in science and technology. He talked about young brigades who have the capacity to bring change for good and also assured the people that his party was not power hungry. "You can definitely vote us out if you feel we are not working for your betterment."

Rajnath Singh chose not to utter a word against the Sena. His speech focussed on the NCP and Congress. He said during the Congress-NCP regime, petrol and diesel prices were hiked twice and thrice every month, while the BJP government has reduced petrol prices three times and diesel too will become cheaper.

With an obvious mention the PM, and the masses chanting Modi's name every now and then, the home minister talked about BJP's achievements. He said that he would love to visit the constituency again. "It won't be for a grand welcome, but to serve to the needs of the people."
