In Nana Chudasama's demise, heartbeat and essence of city is lost

Nana Chudasama, a multifaceted person was the essence and heartbeat of the city. He spearheaded various initiatives like the Clean Mumbai and Green Mumbai drives much present-day activists got concerned about the environment.

Chudasama, son of a police officer, went on to become the mayor of the city and also its Sheriif. Chudasama was known for his social work in various spheres of life. His one-liners on social issues and polity outside his office at Marine Drive often struck a chord. A book compiling his one-liners titled, 'History on a banner', was released in 2010 at the hands of former deputy prime minister L K Advani, in the presence of Mukesh Ambani.

Chudasama is known as the founder of Giants International, which has 500 branches in India and in other countries like the United States and the United Kingdom. He was also the president of "I Love Mumbai" which he found while being the Sheriff. The organisation focussed on beautifying, cleaning and making the city green. He was also the president of the Forum Against Drugs and AIDS. The eminent leader was also the chairperson of the National Kidney Foundation. He was also the founding president of the Common Man's Forum, an organization to safeguard the interests of the common man.

Dr Ashok Ajmera, the FCA chairman tweeted, "In Chudasama's demise, we have lost a great statesman who was the heartbeat of the city."

Governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao termed Chudasama as the conscience keeper of the city. Rao said that Chudasama's contribution to the city's socio-economic and cultural life is unparalleled.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis described Chudasama as a person who added dimension to the designation of sheriff. He also said that the city has lost a person, who was closely associated with the development and progress of the city.

NCP President Sharad Pawar said that Chudasama's service to the society was exemplary.
