Gangster Abu Salem who was brought to Vashi’s Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) Hospital around 11 pm on Thursday kept a perfectly calm demeanour during the three hours that he was admitted to the trauma ward.

“He maintained a stoic face and was silent throughout the treatment procedure.

He didn’t look scared or worried. He was very composed,” said a doctor at the hospital.

Salem was admitted to the trauma ward with the pellet lodged deep between the webbing of his index finger and thumb in the right hand, doctors said. A team of general and orthopaedic surgeons attended to him and located the pellet with the X ray.

“The pellet was lodged between the index finger knuckle and the flesh in the bone of the right hand palm. He also sustained a fracture wound at the site of the injury. His wound was cleaned, sutured and a plaster was put on the palm and wrist. The fracture will take up to six weeks to heal,”said Dr Prashant Jawade, medical superintendent, NMMC Hospital. He was later shifted to JJ Hospital as NMMC hospital does not have a jail ward.

“Salem was brought to JJ hospital close to 3am. We checked his right hand plaster. The treatment for the wound had been properly taken care of, so we declared him fit for discharge,” said Dr TP Lahane, dean of JJ Hospital. Salem was ferried back to Taloja Jail early morning on Friday.
