The committee had a hearing with the IMA to hear about their objection to the Bill and have suggested them to submit an alternative proposal
The Indian Medical Association (IMA) will be submitting an alternative proposal for the National Medical Commission (NMC) Bill to the parliamentary standing committee on health in two days.
According to IMA members, they have been drafting an alternative proposal on NMC Bill since January 24. The bill intends to reform medical education in the country.
Speaking about highlights of the proposal, Dr Ravi Wankhedkar, IMA National President, said, “The Bill is totally undemocratic. It should have representatives from different stakeholders from all the state. The members must be elected representatives. We are against a bridge course which allows Ayush practitioners to dispense allopathic medicines after a course of six months.”
The committee had a hearing with the IMA to hear about their objection to the Bill and have suggested them to submit an alternative proposal. A committee of seven members has drafted an alternative proposal since January 24 after the meeting with the standing committee. The finalized alternative proposal will be submitted in next two days.
Dr Wankhedkar added, “We are opposing on exit exam for MBBS pass-outs. There is no need for a national uniform subjective exam across the country when clinical knowledge of the doctors are tested through various exams as per the state’s conducted exams.”
