The state excise department on Thursday busted an illegal liquor racket where they found bootleggers selling fake liquor in the bottles of premium alcohol brands such as Royal Stag, McDowell and many more. It seized cheap alcohol, spirit, essence, labels and caps of some premium brands valued at Rs5.59 lakh from a residence in Hadapsar and arrested four men selling cheap alcohol.They have been identified as Aslam alias Salim Mehmood Shaikh (33), a resident of Mohammadwadi in Hadapsar; Yogendra Sinh Powar (31), a resident of Dighi; Sachin Mohite (21), a resident of Kalyan; and Manjunath Atmaram Dalbhanjan (48), a resident of Gadital in Hadapsar.Women steal jewelleryGold bangles valued at Rs1.81 lakh were stolen from Tara Jewellers on Laxmi Road on Wednesday night. In his complaint, shop owner Kalpesh Sharad Shrof (38) of Bhavani Peth told the Vishrambaug police two women had come to the jewellery shop at 8 pm. One of them asked a salesman to show her gold ornaments. The other distracted the salesman, enabling her accomplice to pocket the ornaments.Rape suspect arrestedThe Hinjewadi police have arrested Rajesh Kumar Sharma (32) for allegedly raping a 4-year-old girl on Wednesday night at a construction site in Thergaon. The judicial magistrate (first class) has granted police custody to Sharma for further investigation.

Soldier's body identifiedThe Khadki police have identified the headless body of Jagguraja Damodaran, a sepoy with the College of Military Engineering (CME), which was fished out from Mutha river under Holkar Bridge on Wednesday afternoon. Damodaran was training at the CME and had gone missing on September 8 from Dapodi. An identity card and a pan card in the pocket of the headless corpse helped in identification.
