City crime branch sleuths have submitted the charge-sheet against Congress leader Kripashankar Singh in the illegal-possession-of-firearms case in Esplanade court on Tuesday. The firearms are said to have been recovered during a raid at his house in 2012.

What was the raid about?
According to sources in crime branch, on March 2, 2012, assistant commissioner of police Suhas Rane, who was probing a Prevention of Corruption Act case, searched Singh's house in Shree Sai Prasad Co-operative Housing Society at Service Road in Bandra (E).

What did cops find?
During the search, the police found 214 intact 12bore DBBL gun cartridges, 172 intact .32 bore revolver cartridges, 09 intact 7.65bore pistol cartridges and 65 intact 8mm rifle cartridges.

What did the police do?
Cops sought explanation from Singh and his son Narendramohan as to why they had stored the cartridges in the house. They also verified with the records in the police Licencing Department.

Did the two have arms licence?
"It was learnt that Narendramohan's arms licence No. BO/1272/MARCH-2002 for .32 bore pistol with 50 rounds – maximum that can be possessed at any one time as approved by licencing authority – had expired on March 18, 2006 and that he hadn't renewed it.

And as he had violated the conditions on holding the licence, on July 7, 2010, Narendramohan deposited one .32bore pistol and 03 cartridges with the police. He however, did not deposit 09 live cartridges within reasonable time. These were seized by the police during house search," said a police officer requesting anonymity.

Was anything else found?
The police also found 09 7.65mm bore pistol cartridges without requisite licence in Singh's possession. A case was registered in this regard at Nirmal Nagar police station.
