The brother-in-law told the police that he did not say or do anything that could have instigated the accused. He also said that when the accused woke up in the morning, he was already irritated and went to the bathroom without speaking to him. When he returned, the accused seemed even more irritated and, after exchanging a few words with his brother-in-law, started kicking him.

The brother-in-law told the police that seeing the accused's anger and irritability, the hospital staff asked him (the brother-in-law) to leave as they thought it would calm the accused.

The accused, however, went on a rampage, first kicking the sweeper woman and then attacking the three patients who were in the same ward.

"We are still waiting for his medical report and history. He is undergoing treatment at JJ hospital," said Narendra Singh, senior inspector.

The accused was admitted to the general ward on the third floor of Bombay Hospital on May 8. He first attacked Lilabihari Thakur, a resident of Pratiksha Nagar, with a saline rod and then hit two more patients.

Thakur, who had been detected with cancer, succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment. The police have booked the accused for murder.
