Kamalaben Thakar has been living alone in her second-floor flat at Sainath Nagar in Ghatkopar (West) for the past two-and-a-half years. The incident took place on Thursday at around 2pm. Samir Kadam found her when he visited her to give her some money.

“After opening the door, my mother collapsed on the ground. Kadam immediately contacted me and told me that the entire flat was ransacked,” said Paresh Thakar. Thakar then contacted her neighbours who took her to Sapana hospital in Ghatkopar (West). She has been admitted in the ICU there.

The doctors had to put six stitches on a wound she sustained on the head. The doctors, after conducting a CT scan and X-ray, said she was stable.

It is yet to be determined valuables worth how much were stolen from the flat. Only my mother can ascertain that, but she isn’t fit to give any statement yet, added Paresh.Neighbours said they did not see anybody enter the flat. One of the building’s residents said the watchman, Mulla, was in the toilet when the incident took place. The two-storey building has no CCTV cameras.

“The police are recording the statements of Paresh, Mulla and Kamalaben’s neighbours. We are yet to register a case of robbery,” said a officer from Ghatkopar police station.
